Covestro To Showcase 'The Material Effect' at K 2025

Covestro will present its latest innovations under the theme “The Material Effect at K 2025, the world’s largest plastics and rubber trade fair, held this October in Düsseldorf. The showcase will focus on how high-performance materials are central to building a more sustainable, circular, and climate-neutral future.

With over 20 innovation stories on display, Covestro will demonstrate the practical role of materials in solving global challenges across industries such as automotive, electronics, healthcare, and sports. The company’s guiding idea reflects its commitment to enabling breakthrough solutions through material science, process development, and application expertise.

A highlight at booth A75 in Hall 6 will be the SUE “People Mover a concept urban electric shuttle developed by UE | STUDIOS. It features polycarbonate glazing, polycarbonate lidar covers, and lightweight mono-material components like Arfinio® and TPU. Also on display will be the IMAGIO® digital sampling tool, which enables design teams to create realistic visualisations of product materials without physical samples, reducing waste early in the development cycle.

Covestro’s CEO Markus Steilemann remarked that despite global uncertainty and industry challenges, the company is laying the groundwork for a smarter, greener future. He noted that recyclable and climate-neutral plastics are key to progress in areas such as e-mobility, smart infrastructure, and digital transformation.

“The Material Effect theme underlines how Covestro’s solutions enable sustainable product development by bridging the gap between lab innovation and industrial application. Jochen Hardt, project lead for K 2025, added that this combination of top-tier materials and process expertise empowers partners to enhance sustainability, circularity, and product performance.

In alignment with its long-term strategy, Covestro aims to become fully circular. The company plans to reach climate neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035 and achieve full value chain neutrality (Scope 13) by 2050. Supporting this goal, it has signed eleven power purchase agreements and now sources 16 per cent of its global electricity from renewables.

Covestro is also phasing out fossil-based raw materials and developing new recycling technologies for polyurethanes, polycarbonates, and elastomers. The commitment is reflected in its "CQ" (Circular Intelligence) product line, which includes products made with at least 25 per cent alternative raw materials. Additional labels include “RE for renewable-based content, “RP for chemically recycled content, and “R for mechanical recycling.

These and other sustainable solutions will be available for viewing at the Covestro booth, affirming the company's role in shaping the future of responsible materials.
