Oberoi Group Launches ‘Elements by Oberoi Sustainability Framework

18 Jun 2025

The Oberoi Group has launched a comprehensive environmental and social responsibility initiative, ‘Elements by Oberoi, setting ambitious targets to make its luxury hotels significantly more sustainable by 2030. Guided by the core principles of Earth, Water and Air, the framework underlines the hotel chain’s commitment to embedding sustainability into all aspects of its operations.

Key objectives by 2030 include:

  • Recycling 100 per cent of wastewater and reducing fresh-water use per occupied room by 20 per cent
  • Sourcing 50 per cent of electricity from renewable sources
  • Shifting transport fleets entirely to electric vehicles
  • Phasing out fossil-fuel thermal systems in new properties and replacing them with electric alternatives in existing hotels

Focus on Earth:

The group will promote eco-sensitive design across properties, including organic farming, waste-to-compost systems, plastic bottle elimination, and locally sourced produce. These efforts aim to maintain harmony with the surrounding landscape and reduce waste.

Preserving Water:

Water conservation forms a central part of the framework, through advanced rainwater harvesting, zero-liquid-discharge initiatives, and sustainable laundry operations. The measures also extend to community projects for marine conservation and responsible water usage beyond hotel premises.

Enhancing Air Quality:

The Group plans to reduce its carbon footprint by deploying solar and wind energy, installing air purification and smart energy systems, and constructing electric vehicle charging stations. These measures aim to ensure cleaner air for guests and staff alike.

Community and Cultural Uplift:

‘Elements goes beyond ecology, aiming to uplift local communities through skill-building, inclusive employment, and the preservation of cultural heritage. The hotels will incorporate local crafts and art into their design, deepening community connections.

Leadership Views:

Arjun Oberoi, Executive Chairman, stated that responsible growth must shape the way they build, serve, and lead. Vikram Oberoi, CEO, remarked that true luxury is found in care—for guests, communities and the environment—and that sustainability is integrated seamlessly into every guest journey.

This framework marks a significant step for the Oberoi Group towards environmentally conscious luxury, embedding lasting, planet-positive practices into one of India’s most esteemed hospitality brands.
