AMPRI, Tripura ink pact to use bamboo in building construction

The Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI) of Bhopal, under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has entered into an agreement with the Tripura State Council for Science and Technology for promoting the use of bamboo in the building construction sector.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the officials of both parties for a joint venture (JV) project for making wood from bamboo in a bid to promote its use in construction purposes.

Bamboo is commonly used in Tripura and other north eastern states for the construction of houses and other household items.

4th Indian Cement Review Conference 2021

17-18 March

This is the first time AMPRI came up with a technology to make woodblocks from bamboo for better durability, finishing of the products, elegance, and sustainable tree wood substitute.

With the growing wood demand in the construction sector, it has become difficult to manage the supply chain, as no tree aged less than ten years can be used for timber in the region.

Teak and few other local species of trees have been the major source of timber in Tripura and other north eastern states.

As a building material, bamboo has high compressive strength and low weight and has been one of the most used building materials as a support for concrete, especially in locations where it is found in abundance. It is used for the construction of scaffolding, bridges and structures, houses.
