Tunnels and Underground Construction India, to be held from September 13-16, 2010 in New Delhi, will provide an insight into the complex issues surrounding major tunnel projects.

Major tunnel projects are being implemented to improve and expand urban water supply and sewerage, bring on line hydropower in the Himalayas, enhance and expand road and railway connections across the country, and realise ambitious programme for building and expanding mass rapid transit systems.

The Indian tunneling industry, to cater to these projects, is actively searching for specialised tunnel design methods, project management know-how and state-of-the-art equipment and materials.

The event will provide an insight into the complex issues surrounding major tunnel projects and understanding the benefits and challenges associated with the various types of technologies, machineries and contracts available. The post conference workshop will be held on September 16, 2010. It will focus on issues related to developing cost-effective tunneling infrastructure including understanding the need for quality geotechnical investigations, evaluating the cost of tunnel infrastructure, analysing and selecting the ideal tunneling method. Besides it will discuss innovative methods to develop economical and sustainable options in tunnel engineering and identify and select the various services involved in tunnel construction.
