Managing Director of IntelliSmart Infrastructure Private Limited, Anil Rawal told the media that the company is eyeing new smart prepaid meter installation projects across India, where tendering is in its advanced stage.
Last year in November, IntelliSmart Infrastructure received Rs 500 crore from the Assam government to install 6.2 lakh smart metres in 9 circles of Assam.
State governments and power distribution companies (discoms) invited the bids.
The recent bids are for installing over 3.5 crore metres in the state. The tender for smart metres has been floated in Uttar Pradesh to install 2.7 crore smart prepaid metres.
The bids have also been invited in Bihar to install 36 lakh metres, followed by Madhya Pradesh to install 22.81 lakh metres, Assam 20.71 lakh metres, Punjab 10.07 metres, Maharashtra 10 lakh metres, Puducherry 4.06 lakh metres and Andhra Pradesh 2.22 lakh metres.
The digitisation process of the distribution companies through the smart metering process is the solution for these systemic inefficiencies. Minister of Power, R K Singh, said that discoms were unable to pay the generation companies for the power procured and outstanding payment of Rs 1,56,000 crore.
Rawal said that smart metres help in addressing challenges of Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses. He added that the state governments have targeted implementing smart metres for ten crore consumers in India by 2023 and 25 crore households by 2025.
IntelliSmart is installing smart metres in five states and two union territories, including Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar island.
He said that these regions would have over 84 lakh smart metres, and currently, there are 21.9 lakh successfully installed smart metres.
