Gujarat's power distribution companies (DISCOMs) have once again secured top positions in the Ministry of Power鈥檚 thirteenth annual integrated ratings, with all four retaining their A+ ratings. The evaluation covered 42 state-run DISCOMs, 10 private DISCOMs, and 11 state power departments for their performance during FY 2023-24. Among the 63 entities assessed, 21 improved their ratings, 29 maintained their previous rankings, and 13 were downgraded. The total count of A+ rated DISCOMs remained at 11, including four from Gujarat, three from Odisha, two from Haryana, and one each from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. While Gujarat maintained its dominance, Andhra Pradesh DISCOMs faced downgrades due to increased Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and declining collection efficiency. Karnataka saw a mixed performance, with three DISCOMs improving their ratings, while one was downgraded. Odisha also experienced a split performance, with most DISCOMs seeing lower ratings except for TP Central Odisha Distribution, which retained its A+ status. Maharashtra鈥檚 state-owned DISCOM saw a downgrade, whereas Adani Electricity Mumbai retained its A+ rating. In Rajasthan, two DISCOMs were downgraded, reflecting challenges in billing and collection efficiency. Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation retained its C- rating, indicating persistent inefficiencies. The ratings highlight Gujarat鈥檚 continued excellence in power distribution while underscoring challenges faced by several states, particularly Telangana, which lagged behind in performance improvements. (Mercom)
