India Achieves Historic Milestone in Renewable Energy Growth in FY 2024-25

India has achieved a significant milestone in its renewable energy transition, adding 25 GW of capacity in FY 2024-25, a 35 percent rise from the previous year鈥檚 18.57 GW. This growth aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi鈥檚 vision for a sustainable and self-sufficient energy future. The solar power sector has played a pivotal role in this achievement, with capacity additions increasing from 15 GW in FY24 to 21 GW in FY25, marking a 38 percent surge. Domestic solar manufacturing has seen remarkable growth under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Solar module production capacity nearly doubled from 38 GW in March 2024 to 74 GW in March 2025, while solar PV cell manufacturing capacity tripled from 9 GW to 25 GW. India also saw the commencement of its first 2 GW ingot-wafer manufacturing facility. Under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules, investments worth Rs.41,000 crore have been made, creating direct jobs for approximately 11,650 individuals.
