India installs 97 GW grid-interactive renewable energy as of June 30

India has so far installed 96.95 GW of cumulative grid-interactive renewable energy capacity except for hydropower, till 30 June 2021, against its target of 175 GW by 2022.

According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Ministry of Power, R K Singh said that 42.3 GW is from grid-scale solar power out of the total capacity.

Karnataka is the leading solar addition with an installed capacity of 7,409 MW grid-interactive PV capacity. Rajasthan ranks second with 6,581 MW installed capacity, Gujarat with 5,132 MW capacity. The states with the lowest PV installations are Sikkim with 0.07 MW capacity, Meghalaya with 0.19 installed capacity and Lakshadweep with 0.75 MW capacity.

The estimated solar power generation in India is 749 GW, with Rajasthan producing 142 GW, Jammu and Kashmir producing 111 GW, and Maharashtra has 64 GW generation potential.

The ministry also said that the government is planning to increase the target of setting up solar parks from 20 GW capacity to 40 GW capacity under the governments' scheme of Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects.

The government has also approved three tenders to install Dondaicha Solar Park of 250 MW capacity, Patoda Solar Park of 500 MW capacity, and Sai Guru Solar Park in Maharashtra with 500 MW.
