Nagaland Rolls Out Rooftop Solar Scheme with State Subsidy

Nagaland has launched a state-level rooftop solar scheme to promote self-reliant power generation and cut its reliance on conventional energy. The initiative supports the Centre鈥檚 Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and forms a key part of the broader Nagaland Solar Mission.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, launching the scheme on Monday, said it reflects the state鈥檚 strategic shift toward clean energy amid persistent power shortages. 鈥淲e鈥檙e encouraging households to make the solar transition not just for energy security but also for long-term cost savings,鈥 he said.

The state will offer an additional subsidy of up to Rs 50,000 for rooftop solar systems up to 3 kW capacity鈥攐ver and above the central subsidy. The funds will be provided through state budget allocations.

Power Minister K.G. Kenye said the combined subsidies would make solar more affordable and help improve power availability across Nagaland. He called the move a step toward ensuring clean, reliable energy for households and spurring local development.

The scheme is expected to draw strong public interest, with dual incentives significantly lowering the financial barrier for residential solar adoption.
