On Monday, officials told the media that around 700 structures in North Delhi were declared dangerous in the pre-monsoon survey by the civic body. The safety of old buildings and structures came into focus after two boys got killed in a four-story building that collapsed in North Delhi. As per the officials, the building collapsed on Monday in front of the old Robin Cinema of the Civil Line Zone of the north municipal corporation, which was 75 years old. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) conducted a pre-monsoon survey in all the six zones from May to June to identify such structures and take remedial steps. A senior officer of NDMC said that 699 structures were identified as dangerous structures, and 444 were identified as needing necessary repairs. He further said that during the survey of Civil Line Zone, the civic body identified 89 structures as dangerous, and 20 structures were found dangerous in the municipal ward number 13. Out of this, nine structures were located on the same road where the collapse took place in Old Sabzi Mandi. Officials said that all the zonal authorities of the NDMC have issued notices to the property owners under Section 348 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act 1957. According to the rules, after a building is declared dangerous, but if it is repairable, the owner is suggested to get it repaired, but if it is dilapidated, then the civic body will have to demolish it. Recently, a building in the Narela area of Delhi, which was declared dangerous by the civic body, collapsed. However, none were injured. An official said that an old building collapsed in the Begumpura area of the civic zone. The building was vacant as it was declared dangerous already, so none were injured in the incident.
