Check SRA potential at the government colony in Bandra East

In a significant development, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued directives to assess the potential of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) area situated within the Bandra East government colony. The directive calls for a comprehensive redevelopment plan to be formulated and submitted for further evaluation. Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that the decision regarding redevelopment would be contingent on a thorough examination of the SRA site, taking into account its capacity and all technical aspects, including the funnel zone.

The government colony, occupying a substantial 90-acre plot, serves as the residence for 4,782 flats allocated to first- to fourth-class officers and employees. Notably, 169 buildings within the colony have been categorized as 'dangerous,' with an additional 68 labeled as 'super-dangerous.' In response to these conditions, a decision has been made to vacate 101 buildings, with alternative service accommodation provided to the affected employees through a lottery system.

Furthermore, out of the 12 buildings currently under construction, work on four has been successfully completed. An additional one of these 12 buildings will be allocated for the Savitribai Phule Government Hostel, adding a layer of significance to this redevelopment effort.

Chief Minister Shinde's directive underscores the commitment to addressing the housing and structural needs within the Bandra East government colony, ultimately aiming to enhance the living conditions and safety of the officers and employees residing there. The comprehensive redevelopment plan is poised to play a pivotal role in this transformative endeavor.
