GMDA to use GIS for monitoring infra development in Gurugram

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to use its geographic information system (GIS) to monitor the infrastructural developments in the city.

Officials told the media that the visual records obtained by satellite images of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) will also be used to monitor encroachments and illegal constructions.

According to a senior GMDA official, the need for the project arose from the rampant land encroachments in the city. The chief minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar recently approved the project.

Further, he added that once the data is there from the system, a matrix will be prepared to depict the urbanisation patterns. The matrix will be shared with the government departments to understand the development and encroachments in the city.

Meanwhile, the GMDA is also working on the procurement of drones for its several GIS projects. The development authority will be setting up weather stations across Gurgaon and Faridabad as a part of another GIS project.

As per the earlier report, the GMDA will set up a 200-250 weather stations network across Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Officials said that the weather station's extensive network will be set up soon to keep proper records of temperature, wind speed, and rainfall throughout the day.
