Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has transferred Rs 250 crore to the accounts of 26,500 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) beneficiaries in the state. Chouhan also presided over the inauguration of 50,000 new houses and virtually witnessed the bhumipujan for the construction of 30,000 new houses. The state government is working nonstop to ensure that everyone has a home, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India. Chouhan told the media that the MP government's goal is to make citizens' lives easier by ensuring that each eligible beneficiary owns a pucca house in the state. According to Chouhan, the state government had previously approved the construction of 8,68,000 houses, with 4,72,000 beneficiaries having already received their house ownership. The remaining houses are being built in a mission mode, with the assurance that those who have not yet benefited from the PMAY will do so soon. Over 4.4 lakh houses were built during Covid-19, providing relief to the beneficiaries, according to a government official. On June 25, 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana � Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship mission of the Indian government, was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). By 2022, when the country celebrates 75 years of independence, the Mission aims to address the urban housing shortage among the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) or low-income group (LIG) and middle-income group (MIG) categories, including slum dwellers, by ensuring a pucca house for all eligible urban households.
