Tesla reveals 5,000 km supercharging route in China

California-based electric car maker Tesla has revealed its longest supercharging route in China. It is a 5,000 km range across the country from east to west with 27 electric-car charging terminals along the way.

Charging facilities are essential for the promotion of electric cars.The longest supercharging route covers nine cities, beginning from the Eastern coastal hub of Zhoushan to the Western city of Horgos adjoining Kazakhstan.

The route follows the same path as the traditional Silk Road, which for centuries was a network of trade routes central to economic, cultural, political, and religious interactions.

Tesla drivers will be able to travel to tourist places, including the Kumtag Desert, the Sayram Lake, and the Turfan volcano, the popular scenic attractions in Xinjiang.

China has the largest electric car market in the world. Tesla has already established about 840 charging stations in China and over 65,000 supercharging poles covering more than 310 cities.

According to Passenger Car Association China, Tesla China's purchases were quite active in May, with wholesales of 33,463 regionally made vehicles the previous month, compared with the 25,845 in April.
