There is a story behind every celebration and September 15 has its own tale to narrate. Commemorated as Engineer´s Day in India, this marks the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, Knight Commander of the Indian Empire (KCIE), popularly known as Sir MV. A notable Indian engineer, scholar, statesman and the Diwan of Mysore during 1912 to 1918, he was a pre-eminent engineer of India. The chief designer of the flood protection system for Hyderabad in Telangana, Sir MV has also constructed the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mandya, among others. What´s more, he has been a recipient of the Bharat Ratna award in 1955.
