Court Appoints New Directors at Oberoi Hotels Amid Family Dispute

In the ongoing Oberoi family inheritance dispute, the Delhi High Court has intervened, temporarily appointing Anastasia Oberoi as a director of Oberoi Hotels and Oberoi Properties. The decision follows a legal battle over the will of her late father, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, founder of the Oberoi Hotels group. Anastasia is challenging the validity of the March 1992 will, arguing it excludes her interests, as outlined in a later 2021 will, which she claims entitles her to share in the family estate and the governance of the businesses.

At the core of the dispute is a battle over the transfer of shares in Oberoi Hotels and its holding companies, with Anastasia and her mother alleging that her step-siblings are blocking the execution of the 2021 will. The court has restrained the transfer of shares until the dispute is resolved. While the court’s ruling allows Anastasia to attend and vote at the annual general meeting, it is focused only on the specific event and does not set a wider precedent. This development marks a significant point in the high-stakes legal drama involving one of India's most prestigious hotel empires
