Fire reported at Bharat Seats' Maruti Udyog JV Complex plant in Gurugram

Bharat Seats announced that a fire incident occurred at its plant in the Maruti Udyog Joint Venture complex in Gurugram on the morning of May 31, 2024. The company reported that the fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. at their facility located at Plot No. 1 in the Maruti Udyog Joint Venture Complex in Gurgaon.

The auto component manufacturer stated that there were no human casualties resulting from the incident. The company also mentioned that although production was temporarily disrupted for a short period, it was restored once the fire was controlled.

Bharat Seats, which is a joint venture between Suzuki Motor Corp, Maruti Suzuki India, and Rohit Relan and Associates, produces seating systems and interior components for automotive and surface transport. The company operates five manufacturing facilities, with three located in Haryana and two in Gujarat.

The company is currently investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the actual losses incurred. They confirmed that there is sufficient insurance coverage for the affected plant and that the insurance company has already been informed.

Earlier in the day, there was confusion as videos shared on social media suggested that the fire had broken out at the Maruti Suzuki factory, due to a hoarding with Maruti Suzuki's name being visible in the footage. However, a spokesperson for Maruti Suzuki later clarified that no fire incident had occurred at their plant.
