Haryana Plans New Highway to Link Ambala and Panchkula

In a move set to bolster regional connectivity, trade, and employment, the Haryana government has announced plans to construct a new national highway between Ambala and Panchkula.
According to Transport Minister Anil Vij, the proposed highway will connect Baldev Nagar in Ambala to Khatoli village near Panchkula, and will be developed as a four or six-lane expressway. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to improve direct connectivity between Ambala and Panchkula, and follows Vij鈥檚 previous correspondence with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
Minister Vij stated that Gadkari has since directed the relevant authorities to initiate work on the project, which will involve the upgrading of the existing NH-72 from Baldev Nagar to Handsera, and the creation of a greenfield route extending to NH-344 near Khatoli.
The project is expected to significantly improve inter-state connectivity, benefiting not only Haryana but also neighbouring Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and the Chandigarh region.
In addition, the Ambala鈥揝aha Road鈥攕tretching from Indira Chowk to the GT Road near Jaggi City Centre鈥攚ill be widened to four lanes. This section runs in front of Ambala鈥檚 upcoming domestic airport, further enhancing transport infrastructure and accessibility.
Once complete, the new highway and associated road upgrades are anticipated to drive economic growth by improving trade logistics, supporting tourism, and generating new employment opportunities across the region.
