The Maharashtra Government gave administrative approval of Rs 26,831.24 crore for the project and a concession agreement with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), following the Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samrud, on Monday, in a major boost to the development of the proposed 173.70 km outer ring road, which is meant to relieve traffic congestion in Pune.The state Public Works Department approved all four packages of the mega project in a government resolution. The first package includes the construction of a 29.85 km stretch of road from Solu on the Alandi-Markal Road to Soratwadi on the Pune-Solapur Road, which includes two interchanges, two railway overbridges, one viaduct, two river bridges, and 37 underpasses for Rs 3,523.93 crore. Three interchanges, six tunnels, 10 viaducts, one railway overbridge, and two underpasses are included in the second package for the construction of 36.73 km of road from Soratawadi on Pune-Solapur Road to Varve on Satara Road at Rs 4,495.45 crore. Four interchanges, one railway overbridge, two river bridges, and 28 underpasses are included in the third package, which spans 38.340 kilometres from Urse on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Solu on the Alandi-Markal Road for 6,635.86 crore. Six interchanges, eight tunnels, two viaducts, three river bridges, and 56 underpasses are part of the fourth package for the construction of a 68.8 km road from Urse on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Varve on the Satara Road at Rs 12,176 crore. On August 25, the state government's basic infrastructure committee gave its approval to the project's implementation process. Three major national highways, Mumbai-Bangalore, Mumbai-Hyderabad-Vijayawada, and Pune-Nashik, as well as new national highways, Pune-Pandharpur, Pune-Aurangabad, and Pune-Mangaon, all pass through the city, resulting in heavy interstate and intrastate traffic.
