MoRD to improve economic well-being of rural people

The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) aims to address rural poverty and improve the economic well-being of rural people with main focus on increasing livelihood opportunities, empowering rural women, providing social safety, skill development, infrastructure development etc, from various government programmes.

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) aims to provide employment opportunities for enhancing livelihood security of the households in rural areas by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year (FY) to the adult members of the family. Since FY 2018-19, the scheme generated 1,026.24 crore person-days of employment.

The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) focuses on poor rural women, launching Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the villages, supporting them till they generate sufficient incomes and improve their quality of livelihood and end their poverty.

Since FY 2018-19, 339.22 lakh households have mobilised, 31.54 lakh SHGs have been promoted, and Rs 3,06,007.2 crore of bank loan has been disbursed to SHGs and Rs 23,615.02 crore has been incurred under NRLM.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) focus on poor youth in rural areas. These schemes increase the employability of poor rural youth either for wage or self-employment. Since FY 2018-19, 5,64,037 candidates have been trained, 3,61,206 candidates have been placed under DDU-GKY and RESTI. About 13,17,798 candidates have been trained and settled 9,66,971 candidates.

The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a social welfare programme for the aged, widows, disabled people belonging to below poverty line (BPL) Households. Since FY 2018-19, Rs 32,253.41 crore has been incurred under the programme.

Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Grameen (PMAY-G) aims to construct pucca houses for all rural houseless households and households living in kutcha and dilapidated houses. The objective of the scheme is to provide Housing For All. A total target of Rs 2.95 crore for households is under PMAY-G. Since its inception, Rs 1.75 crore houses have been built under the scheme.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is an initiative towards poverty alleviation in rural areas by providing all-weather road connectivity in rural areas. Since its inception, 7,82,850 km of road has been sanctioned and 6,95,351 km of road.

Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) delivers catalytic interventions to rural areas experiencing rapid growth. It aims to stimulate local economic development, enhance the basic services, and create well planned Rurban clusters. These clusters are developed by provisioning basic economical, social and digital infrastructure facilities covering 21 components under the mission.

Since its inception, the SPMRM has approved 299 clusters against the target of 300 and incurred a total expenditure of Rs 16265.95 crore.

Under the Department of Rural Development, since FY 2018-19, Rs 5,59,932.16 crore has been incurred under various government schemes.
