PCMC Restarts Work on Stalled Kalewadi to Dehu-Alandi BRT Route

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been developing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors along key roads in the city to enhance public transportation. One of these projects, the BRT road from Kalewadi to Dehu-Alandi, faced significant delays due to land acquisition challenges involving certain companies. With the resolution of these issues, the municipal corporation has now resumed work on the pending section, including land acquisition and infrastructure development.

The Kalewadi to Dehu-Alandi BRT route was designed to improve connectivity for commuters traveling to the Hinjawadi IT Park. However, the project remained incomplete for 14 years due to the inability to acquire a 100-meter stretch of land between the Chinchwad Auto Cluster and the Commissioner’s bungalow. The delay resulted from initial resistance from companies that occupied the land, preventing progress on the corridor.

Efforts by the municipal corporation eventually led to the transfer of the land last year. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) facilitated the relocation of the affected companies to alternate sites, allowing the land acquisition process to be finalized. The handover process took approximately a year to complete.

Following the acquisition, the municipal corporation deployed machinery to demolish existing structures and clear the site for construction. With the land now available, work on the BRT road is moving forward, including the installation of necessary infrastructure and facilities. Once completed, the road is expected to enhance traffic flow and improve public transport efficiency in the region.
