PM Narendra Modi inaugurates infra projects in UP worth Rs 1,583 cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating 134 development projects worth around Rs 1,583 crore during his visit to Varanasi.
Mahesh Chandra Srivastava, Kashi region BJP president, told the media that the PM would inaugurate 68 development projects worth Rs 744 crore and lay the foundation of over 65 projects worth Rs 839 crore; along with addressing a public meeting at IIT-BHU ground during his visit to the temple city.
These projects cover the inauguration of Varanasi International Cooperation and Convention Centre (VICCC) ‘Rudraksha�, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Mother and Child Health Wing of the SSL Hospital (BHU), operation of cruise boat from Rajghat to Assi Ghat, installation of signages at all 84 ghats, operation of RORO vessels in Ganga and others.
Srivastava also said that the PM would launch the developmental projects at the IIT-BHU ground during a programme, and after that, he would address the individuals present in the programme.
Shinzo Abe, the then Japan Prime Minister, visited Varanasi along with Prime Minister Modi in December 2015. The VICCC project was gifted to the city by Abe.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided finance for the construction of the VICCC, which cost around Rs 186 crore. Fujita Corporation, a Japanese Company, which was given the contract to build the centre, constructed it and handed it over to the Varanasi Smart City for its management operation recently.
