Haldia LPG import terminal recruits ABB for automation

ABB, a global technology company, has been employed by LPG import terminal for automation, product output and operations of the 1 mmtpa capacity LPG import terminal set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) at Haldia.

This project was one of the key oil and gas, and infrastructure projects inaugurated in West Bengal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project is meant to further fulfil the increasing demand of LPG in five states namely West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and other areas. In collaboration with Engineers India Limited, ABB India has provided automation solutions including the distributed control system, RVP-based blending solution and the Terminal automation system solution and more. According to ABB:

  • Distributed control system ensures automation, control and monitoring of the operations. It helps create an integrated enterprise where PLCs, control systems, F&G, ESD, maintenance systems and ERPs all collaborate in one seamless environment.
  • The RVP-based blending solution works based on real-time measurement of product components and provides controlled and quality blending for large components such as butane and propane.
  • Terminal automation system is a solution that integrates receipt, storage, movement of products through pipelines or tankers and dispatch at the facilities. It is intended to provide an automation and safety system to support the local operations.
