India's First Ultra-Low Emission TMT Bars Supplied to Odisha Plant

India has officially entered the green steel era with the first supply of ultra-low emission TMT bars to Epic Group鈥檚 upcoming manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The milestone was achieved through a collaboration between ARS Steel, global fashion manufacturer Epic Group, and sustainability-tech firm sentra.world.

The new Rs 3.77 billion (approx. USD 45 million) facility is being developed as a net-zero plant for energy and water usage. It will use green steel to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

ARS Steel鈥檚 550D grade TMT bars 鈥 made using 98% recycled steel, renewable energy, and no fossil fuels 鈥 emit just 0.59 tCO? per tonne of finished steel (tfs), compared to the national average of 2.5 tCO?/tfs. This positions ARS as one of the lowest-emission steel producers in India.

鈥淲ith a national average emission intensity around 2.5 tCO?/tfs, ARS Steel has set a new benchmark by achieving an emission intensity of 0.59 tCO?/tfs, making it 4X greener than average TMT bars,鈥 a joint statement said on Friday.

TMT (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) bars are critical for infrastructure such as buildings, highways, bridges, and industrial structures, thanks to their combination of strength and flexibility.

India is also the first country to officially define green steel ratings 鈥 awarding a 5-star rating to any steel emitting below 1.6 tCO?/tfs. ARS鈥檚 product easily qualifies under this category.

By opting for ARS鈥檚 green steel, Epic Group has reduced the embodied emissions of its building by around 20%. The shift moves away from conventional blast furnaces to the cleaner electric arc route for steel production.

To ensure full transparency, sentra.world is using AI and blockchain to provide real-time emissions tracking and traceability 鈥 bringing data-led accountability to India鈥檚 green construction movement.
