JSW Steel's May Output Rises 8 per cent to 2.27 Million Tonnes

JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.27 million tonnes for May 2025, marking an 8 per cent year-on-year rise. The company also registered a 13 per cent growth in year-to-date output. Capacity utilisation at its Indian operations stood at 80 per cent, impacted by a planned maintenance shutdown of a blast furnace at Dolvi, which was restarted on 30 May.

Part of the US$ 24 billion JSW Group, JSW Steel is India鈥檚 leading integrated steel producer, with a consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), including 1.5 MTPA in the United States. Of this, 5 MTPA is currently under commissioning. Its next growth phase targets a total capacity of 43.4 MTPA over the next three years. The Vijayanagar plant in Karnataka remains India鈥檚 largest single-location steel production facility, with a current capacity of 17.5 MTPA.

The company has a strategic collaboration with JFE Steel of Japan, enabling the production of high-value, specialised steel products for use across infrastructure, automotive, and electrical sectors. JSW Steel is also a pioneer in sustainability and innovation. Recognised seven years in a row by the World Steel Association as a Steel Sustainability Champion, it holds top rankings in CDP climate and water disclosures and features in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.

Currently, over 80 per cent of JSW鈥檚 domestic crude steel output is covered under Responsible Steel鈩 certification, with four sites now fully certified. The company鈥檚 SEED (Sustainable Energy Environment & Decarbonisation) project was recently honoured at COP28. JSW Steel is also targeting a 42 per cent cut in CO鈧 emissions by 2030 and plans to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations by 2050.

In its broader sustainability mission, the company aims for 100 per cent renewable energy use in steel production by 2030, no net loss in biodiversity at operational sites, improved air quality, reduced water usage, and maintenance of zero liquid discharge across all plants.

JSW Steel has also earned repeated recognition for workplace excellence, being named a Great Place to Work for three consecutive years and ranked among India鈥檚 best employers for nation building, health, and wellness.
