New airport project for Kerala

Southern Kerala's Aranmula has taken wings with the state government giving clearance for an airport project. The Rs 2,000 crore project is being promoted by KGS Aranmula Airport Ltd. This will mainly cater to people hailing from Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kollam and Kottayam districts as over 270,000 residents of these districts work or live abroad, mainly in the Gulf and the US. The airport is due for inauguration in 2012, when the first phase will be complete, and small aircraft could land. In the final stage, involving altogether some 500 acre, will see the landing of a jumbo aircraft. This will be Kerala's first private sector airport project.
