Akasa Air Names Belson Coutinho as Chief Operating Officer

Akasa Air, a low-cost airline, has appointed Belson Coutinho as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective January 6, 2025. A press release revealed that Belson will oversee the airline's essential operational functions as it aims to rank among the top 30 airlines worldwide by the end of this decade.
In his new position, Belson will be responsible for inflight services, airport services, maintenance & engineering, flight operations, IOCC, and operational excellence, as well as leading the Akasa Air Learning Academy.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO of Akasa Air, commented that Belson's extensive experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams across various airline operations has provided him with a deep understanding of how operational departments function. He highlighted Belson's passion for brand building, service excellence, training, technology, processes, employee centricity, and his strong focus on cost leadership, all of which position him to bring significant value to his new role as COO.
Belson Coutinho brings over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, with a proven track record in operational, strategic, and leadership capabilities, having led several industry-first initiatives in Indian aviation.
Belson has been part of Akasa Air's executive committee since its founding in 2022. Prior to his new role, he served as the airline鈥檚 co-founder and Chief Marketing and Experience Officer. In this capacity, he played a key role in defining the airline's brand vision, driving customer-centric initiatives that reshaped the industry, and establishing a strong foundation for the airline鈥檚 impressive growth.
Currently, Akasa Air operates a fleet of 26 737 MAX aircraft, which offer superior fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. The aircraft also provide a quieter cabin with 40% less noise, aligning with the airline鈥檚 commitment to being an environmentally progressive company with the youngest and greenest fleet in Indian skies.
