APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd) has entered into a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CleanMax to source renewable energy from a 4.56 MW hybrid wind-solar project in Gujarat. This initiative is projected to generate 5.4 million kWh of electricity annually, cutting carbon emissions by 3,822 metric tonnes and advancing the port's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. The project is being executed in two phases, comprising 3.50 MW of wind capacity and 1.06 MWp of solar capacity. The first phase, consisting of 2 MW of wind and 0.50 MWp of solar, was commissioned in January 2022. The second phase, incorporating 1.50 MW of wind and 0.56 MWp of solar, was completed in September 2024. Girish Aggarwal, Managing Director of APM Terminals Pipavav, emphasised the alignment of this project with the port’s decarbonisation strategy. “This partnership helps us meet renewable energy goals while contributing to India’s broader environmental objectives,� he remarked. The renewable energy will power the port’s operations in Amreli, Gujarat, facilitating a 65% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, compared to 2022 levels. Developed under the Third-Party Open Access model, the hybrid project is also part of the port’s ongoing efforts to achieve certification as a "Green Port." Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director of CleanMax, highlighted the collaboration’s significance. “This partnership underscores the critical role of renewable energy in enabling sustainable operations for essential infrastructure like ports, ensuring energy security and operational efficiency,� he stated.
