Halwara Airport Project Completed; AAP Govt Invests Rs 600 Mn

Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjeev Arora visited Halwara Airport in Ludhiana to review the completed development works. Arora confirmed that the airport project, pending for nearly 30 years, is now 100 per cent complete. The Aam Aadmi Party government provided around Rs 600 million for the airport鈥檚 development.

The project gained momentum under Arora鈥檚 leadership, with strong backing from Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. A barbed wire fence was initially installed as per design, but following a March inspection by the Airports Authority of India, a concrete boundary wall is being built. Additional suggestions by the Airports Authority of India are also being implemented.

The next Airports Authority of India inspection is scheduled for April 30. After the handover by the Public Works Department, staff deputation will begin. Initially, two daily flights will connect Ludhiana to Delhi, enabling international connectivity to Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia.

The airport, allotted the code "HWR," features a CAT-II system for low-visibility operations. The taxiway can park two aircraft, and infrastructure exists for up to 12 flights daily, with provision for future expansion. The airport is expected to significantly boost Ludhiana's economy.
