IndiGo Expands A350 Order to Boost Global Reach

IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has strengthened its fleet expansion strategy by converting 30 aircraft from its purchase rights into a firm order with Airbus, enhancing its existing commitment for A350 wide-body aircraft. This move aligns with the carrier’s long-term vision to deepen its presence in international markets.

In April 2024, IndiGo placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with rights to acquire 70 more. The latest conversion brings the total firm order to 60 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.

The A350-900 jets will be equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, offering enhanced range, fuel efficiency, and operational flexibility. These aircraft are expected to unlock new global destinations for Indian travellers and support more connections with partner airline hubs.

IndiGo had already initiated steps toward long-haul operations in March 2025 by leasing six wide-body aircraft on a temporary basis, all set to be delivered by 2026.

India, currently the world’s third-largest aviation market, is poised for rapid growth, driven by government efforts to position the country as a global aviation hub. IndiGo’s fleet expansion is in sync with this vision, signalling the airline’s readiness to serve the increasing demand for international connectivity from Indian metros.
