Purandar International Airport Project Gains Momentum

The long-delayed Purandar International Airport project is making progress, with key processes underway under the guidance of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to commence land acquisition for the project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalised by September 2025, and the airport is targeted for operational readiness by March 2029. Union MoS Muralidhar Mohol emphasised the growing demand for air transport infrastructure, stating, "Air transport is the fastest-growing sector, and infrastructure expansion is essential to meet this growth. The land acquisition process for Purandar airport will begin shortly, and we aim to finalise the DPR by September 2025." Mohol highlighted the rapid development of Pune and its surrounding areas, noting the increasing air traffic and passenger numbers. He affirmed that while Pune's existing airport is equipped with modern amenities, the Purandar airport is crucial for the city's future needs. Pune district collector Jitendra Dudy confirmed that land acquisition for the project would commence soon, aligning with the Maharashtra government's directive to MIDC. Once completed, the Purandar International Airport is expected to bolster Pune's infrastructure and meet the region's growing aviation demands. (Hindustan Times)
