Rs 500 cr allocated to acquire land for Mumbai-Goa coastal project

The Maharashtra government announced Rs 500 crore to acquire land for the Mumbai-Goa coastal highway project, along the coastal belt of Maharashtra, from Revas in Raigad to Redi in Sindhudurg.

On Friday, Finance Minister Ajit Pawar said that a tender worth Rs 900 crore for a four-lane bridge over the Dharamtar creek has been floated.

The Balasaheb Thackeray memorial prosperity corridor from Mumbai to Nagpur shall be extended between - (i) Nagpur and Bhandara-Gondia, (ii) Nagpur and Gadchiroli. This extension will facilitate a faster approach to the tiger safaris located in the jungles of Vidarbha. Approximately 77% of the highway work is now complete. The necessary funds shall be provided for acquiring Jalna-Nanded Expressway land.

Pawar told the media that in the previous year鈥檚 budget, construction of Rewas to Redi coastal highway was announced to be undertaken. A tender for a four-lane two km creek bridge over Dharamtar creek has been floated which costs over Rs 897 crore, which will connect Rewas and Karanja on the highway mentioned.

Another outlay of Rs 500 crore has been proposed for acquiring around 1,100 hectares for the coastal highway work. In the previous budget around Rs 3,000 crore was allocated by the state for land acquisition.

According to plans, Mumbaikars can take a 500 km scenic Marine highway alongside the Konkan beaches and forts by 2025.
