On Tuesday, on the progress in the building of infrastructure, the Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told the media that connectivity between Delhi to Mumbai will be enhanced such that the travel time is decreased to 12 hours and added that they will achieve this within this year. Amongst the updates, one of the biggest highlights has to be the fact that travelling from Mumbai to Delhi will shortly be able to cover this distance in only 12 hours. And that’s not it, those wanting to travel to Srinagar from Mumbai will be able to cover this distance in 20 hours. Work is in full swing for the Zojila tunnel in Kashmir and is likely to be achieved by 2024, much before the scheduled target of 2026, he said. Gadkari said presently 70% of goods, and 90% of the passenger traffic are travelling by road, as he emphasised the significance of becoming more competitive and decreasing logistics costs. On Tuesday, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari told the media that the road projects worth Rs 62,000 crore have been taken up in the national capital to ease traffic congestion, and handle the problem of pollution.
