Over a year after the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, laid the foundation stone through a video conference, the Gurgaon-Rewari highway work has started.
According to the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the highway project was held due to delays in the land acquisition process from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
The project will require 24 months to complete. The 46 km long highway project is worth Rs 1,524 crore. It will decrease the travel time between the two districts by almost 50%. The highway project is expected to be completed by December 2023.
According to a senior official, the project had also witnessed delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and transfer of land by GMDA.
He added that the work had started but required some suspensions due to the construction ban and other norms imposed due to rising pollution. The deadline to complete the project is 24 months.
This highway will be a part of NH-352, and it will be included in a 132 km stretch at Rs 4,500 crore. It will connect Gurgaon to the Rajasthan border through Pataudi, Rewari and Narnaul.
The highway will ease travelling between Gurgaon and Rewari, reducing travel time of one and a half hours to 45 minutes. It will also reduce the load on NH-8, which is the current route between Gurgaon and Rewari. It will also ease the travelling between the National Capital Region (NCR) and Rajasthan by providing an alternate route.
It is also expected to bring development to the areas close to it and bring more opportunities to the residents by providing them better connectivity with Gurgaon, Delhi and NCR.
