The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (Maharail) has chosen two distinct designs for the construction of a 1.5km-long bridge along the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road. It was stated by a Maharail official that a cable-stayed structure and a bowstring design have been opted for. The bridge is planned to extend from Ghatkopar BEST depot to LBS road, with an interchange facility at the 90-feet road junction to ease traffic movement to and from Pant Nagar. Furthermore, it will extend across the LBS road to alleviate congestion for commuters traveling towards Andheri. The Maharail official mentioned that the segment above the railway tracks will be designed as a cable-stayed structure, whereas the section near the 90-feet junction will feature a bowstring design. The selection of the bowstring design was elaborated upon by the official, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the bridge structure does not interfere with the underground Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train corridor. The cable-stayed bridge is projected to span 108 meters, while the bowstring section will measure 92 meters. The estimated cost of the flyover project is Rs 1 billion. Construction has commenced simultaneously on the eastern and western sections of Ghatkopar to expedite the process. Currently, 12% of the flyover work has been completed, with the total expected cost being Rs 6.20 billion. For the successful execution of the project, a total of 400 encroachments need to be removed. As confirmed by the official, upon their removal, a definitive deadline for the completion of the flyover will be determined.
