Technology and operational excellence have contributed to making Afcons Infrastructure the third-largest construction group in India. Part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, this Mumbai-based company began its operations as a civil construction firm in 1959, and is today considered as one of the top infrastructure development companies in India. Over the last 54 years, Afcons Infrastructure has successfully emerged as an EPC firm executing projects both in India, the MENA region, Africa and Central Asia for which it has formed strategic alliances with global EPC players. Amongst its most noteworthy projects are the $200 million Sohar Bulk Jetty in Oman executed in a JV with Saipem; and the Vallarpadam Rail bridge, the longest in the country completed in a record time of 27 months. Afcons ongoing projects include marine facilities for standby jetty at Dahej for Petronet LNG, design and construction of railway bridge across the Chenab in Jammu & Kashmir, the Rohtang Pass highway tunnel in the Himalayas and two packages of the underground metro line in Chennai.

Afcons in a consortium with Technip KT India and TTHE Malaysia has been awarded a contract worth $290 million by ONGC to develop a HRD process platform. It is also planning to set up a Rs 250 crore fabrication yard at Mahua, Gujarat, for oil and gas platforms.

The company's standalone revenue in 2012-2013 rose 20.5 per cent to Rs 3,080 crore while its net profit rose 4.5 per cent to Rs 92 crore from Rs 88 crore in the previous year.
