Assam unveils plans for 32 km elevated road and underwater tunnel

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam revealed forthcoming plans for significant infrastructural developments. Among these announcements, a 32 km raised road corridor is set to be established within Kaziranga National Park. Additionally, the state government aims to construct an underwater tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra river, a project estimated at Rs 40 billion.

During the observance of National Handloom Day, Chief Minister Sarma articulated, "It is with great pleasure that I share our intent to materialise a 32 km elevated corridor, which will take the form of a flyover. Our determination to bring this project to fruition is steadfast."

Chief Minister Sarma proceeded to elucidate, "In tandem with this endeavour, we have embarked on another ambitious undertaking: the construction of an underwater tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra river. This tunnel, connecting Kamar gaon in the Golaghat district to Gohpur, promises an immersive experience as you traverse underwater, reminiscent of scenes depicted in cinema."

Regarding the timeline and progress, Sarma conveyed, "At present, the Government of India has initiated the tendering process for this monumental venture. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is nearing completion, fostering optimism for the project's prompt commencement."
