Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has started the development of the 3.5 km stretch of Mysuru Road to Aditya Bakery Circle on Uttarahalli Main Road. The stretch will pass from Mysuru Road towards Uttarahalli through Mylsandra and Channasandra. It includes residentials, a tech park, engineering colleges and a hospital. There is an exponential rise in traffic congestion on the stretch. According to BBMP's traffic cell, the stretch sees traffic congestion of 25,741 passenger car units (PCU) daily, which is expected to increase to up to 1 lakh in 20 years. The civic body has a Rs 51 crore investment plan to make it a four-lane stretch. The acquisition of 143 properties have started, and the work is expected to be over within a year. The civic body has offered Transferable Development Rights (TDRs) to land losers. According to a senior engineer, BBMP will give twice the area of the surrendered land to the owners. Some landowners have agreed to give away their land, but many want cash compensation. The owner of Aditya Bakery and Sweets, Y M Janardhan, said that TDR is a complicated and controversial process and demands compensation in cash. According to data, about 23,151 sq meters of land will be acquired and 44 buildings demolished. The widened road will get into the parts of Mylasandra Lake, BGS Health and Education City, Turahalli state forest, Abhiman Studio, petrol bunks and private colleges. The road-widening project is mentioned in the Master Plan 2015. Many plots within the stretch are vacant, said a senior engineer. A senior Palike official said that the department has written to the lakes department to approve the road widening project. Forest department officials have approved the proposal. He added that the forest department has approved cutting 48 trees, while some will be relocated and the rest old and dead ones will be cut down. Image Source
