In an effort to carry out road extension works at Bhandup's Bhattipada road, it was reported that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had demolished nearly 64 structures, which were approximately 40 years old. Civic officials claimed that those constructions had been causing traffic obstructions in the roads near the Bhattipada Junction. Following the removal of the 64 structures, BMC was said to be scheduled to initiate road extension works at Bhattipada Junction, which was a busy route frequently used by commuters. During the demolition drive conducted by the civic body on August 31, it was mentioned that 3 JCBs and 6 dumpers had been deployed on the site. Additionally, it was reported that 10 civic officials and 49 workers were present to carry out the operation. According to statements made by civic workers, they had also stated that they pruned nature trees appropriately before removing the structures. It was expected that the demolition of the old structures would provide significant relief to the residents of Bhandup's Tembipada, Gawdevi, Anthony Church, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Lake localities.
