Cabinet Approves Rs 36 Billion Highway in Andhra Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of a four-lane highway from Badvel to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model. The 108.13-kilometre corridor will be built at a total cost of Rs 36.53 billion.

Starting from Gopavaram on National Highway 67 in YSR Kadapa District and ending at Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 in SPSR Nellore District, the corridor will reduce the travel distance by 33.9 kilometres and cut travel time by one hour. This will significantly lower fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and vehicle operating costs.

The highway will connect key industrial zones in three industrial corridors 鈥 Vishakhapatnam-Chennai, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Bengaluru 鈥 enhancing regional logistics and improving India鈥檚 Logistic Performance Index.

The project is expected to generate around two million man-days of direct employment and 2.3 million man-days of indirect employment. It is also likely to spur additional job creation through increased economic activity in the surrounding regions.
