The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 120.10 km long, 4-lane access-controlled corridor connecting Patna, Arrah, and Sasaram in Bihar. The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) with a total capital investment of Rs 37.12 billion. At present, connectivity between Patna, Arrah, and Sasaram is facilitated through State Highways SH-2, SH-12, SH-81, and SH-102, which experience heavy traffic congestion, particularly in Arrah town. Travel time between these cities ranges from 3 to 4 hours. To address this, the new project will include the development of a greenfield corridor along with the upgradation of 10.6 km of existing brownfield highway. This initiative aims to ease traffic, especially in densely populated areas such as Arrah, Grahini, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram. The planned corridor will integrate with key national highways鈥擭H-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120鈥攐ffering seamless connectivity to major regions like Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Patna. The route will also improve access to critical infrastructure, including Patna鈥檚 Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, the upcoming Bihta Airport, four major railway stations (Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur, and Patna), and the Inland Water Terminal in Patna. Additionally, it will connect directly to the Patna Ring Road, facilitating more efficient transportation of goods and passengers. Once completed, the corridor is expected to significantly boost regional economic growth by improving connectivity between major cities such as Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi. The project will generate approximately 48 lakh man-days of employment and contribute to infrastructure development and socio-economic advancement in Bihar, in line with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
