Centre Sanctions Rs 8.27 Bn for 4-Lane Highway Project in J&K

The Government of India has approved the construction of a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir鈥檚 Ganderbal district.

The Rs 827.98 crore project, sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is part of the Srinagar Ring Road Phase IIA initiative.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed the allocation of funds for the 12.11 km highway, which includes the construction of 1 major bridge, 3 minor bridges, 3 realignments, and 51 box culverts, as well as a 2.55 km elevated structure through Ganderbal Town.

This project will enhance connectivity for tourists and defense vehicles traveling to Leh and Kargil, significantly improving regional access.

The upgraded highway will ease traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency, supporting tourism, trade, and defense mobility in the region.

Local residents and activists have welcomed the project, noting it will address long-standing traffic problems. 鈥淭his road has been a bottleneck for years, and this decision will bring much-needed relief,鈥 said a local social activist.

The project marks another important step toward improving Jammu and Kashmir鈥檚 infrastructure and connectivity.
