In a significant move, 1,091 roads in Kerala were brought under the new project, which makes the original contractors liable for maintenance for three years. It will hopefully guarantee timely maintenance of Public Works Department (PWD) roads in the state. For a span of 3,623.05 km, display boards containing information such as the contractor's and engineer's phone numbers, as well as the length of the road, were installed. Each board is priced at Rs 5,000. The project was officially launched in the constituencies of the local MLAs. Thiruvananthapuram's Golf Link Road was the site of the state's first display board. Only 20 roads in the Manjeri division remain to be covered by the project.The contractors are responsible for three years of maintenance on Bitumen Macadam and Bitumen Concrete (BMBC) and concrete roads, as well as two years of maintenance on other black-topped roads. The Idukki division now leads the project with 480.86 km under construction. With 111.90 km of roads, the Moovattupuzha division is at the bottom of the list. More arterial roads will be added to the list of main roads to be tarred this year by the Kochi Corporation using the Bitumen Macadam and Bitumen Concrete (BMBC) technology. The municipal government intends to use the Plan Fund to rebuild more roads using the BMBC approach. During the developer conference on Monday, the authorities claimed they will identify new roads and get the Corporation council's approval. The BMBC will be responsible for the upkeep of these roads.
