On Friday, the Delhi government secured the excellence award in the urban transport field at the 14th Urban Mobility India Conference prepared by the Ministry of housing and urban affairs. Urban development minister Satyendar Jain was felicitated at the ceremony and received the award in the category of the city with the best non-motorised transport system for the Chandni Chowk revamp plan. The award was given by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of housing and urban affairs. Satyendar Jain, after receiving the project said that it has come true only due to the vision and guidance of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. He congratulated the entire team working on this project. The proposal for the redevelopment of Chandni Chowk was passed on August 27, 2018, and in June 2021, the 1.4 km long Chandni Chowk corridor was notified. In a statement, the government said that apart from wide non-motorised vehicle lanes, special care was taken to guarantee the safety of people. The measures involved the installation of lights and CCTV cameras, apart from 17 boom barriers set up on the roads to observe the traffic movement. The government aims to set up 17 cameras at the boom barrier locations to manage violations of traffic laws and guarantee non-motorised vehicle rules. Image Source
