Officials familiar with the matter revealed that Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the entity managing the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, is currently in the process of constructing two flyovers along the Northern Access Road in Aerocity with the intention of alleviating congestion in the area.Anticipated to be finalised by the conclusion of the year, these two flyovers bear specific names � the first is the Aerocity Flyover, stretching 800 meters in length, situated between the Andaz Delhi hotel and Central Spine Road. The second one, titled the Parallel Access Road Flyover, spans the gap between Andaz Delhi and the Hanuman temple close to National Highway 48 (NH-48). While the construction efforts for both flyovers have been underway for some time, the particulars of their dimensions have just recently been disclosed.The Aerocity Flyover will comprise four lanes, providing a resolution to congestion around the Aerocity traffic signal junction and presenting travellers with an unobstructed journey from Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 3 (T3) via Aerocity. In contrast, the Parallel Access Road Flyover, encompassing two lanes, is expected to facilitate a smoother approach to the airport for passengers arriving from Vasant Kunj. Additionally, this second flyover will effectively unclog the entire road stretch from Terminal 2 (T2) and the cargo terminal to NH-48.A spokesperson from DIAL conveyed, The Aerocity Flyover will untangle traffic gridlock around the Aerocity traffic signal junction, enabling commuters to traverse seamlessly from Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 3 (T3) through Aerocity. Simultaneously, the second flyover will ease congestion along the route spanning from Terminal 2 (T2) and the cargo terminal to NH-48.The construction for both flyovers commenced in June 2022. Earlier this year, in May, DIAL released a traffic advisory detailing alternate routes due to the ongoing construction activities in Aerocity. For the management of traffic between Mahipalpur and Aerocity en route to T2 and T3, a dedicated 250-meter lane was established, extending from the Aerocity signal to the newly installed traffic light on Central Spine Road.A spokesperson from DIAL expounded, This lane has been exclusively designated for vehicles traveling from Mahipalpur and Aerocity towards T3 and T2. Traffic destined for T3 and T2 from Aerocity or Mahipalpur is directed to make a mandatory left turn at the subsequent signal, leading southwards, followed by a right turn after covering 500 meters, thereby merging with the flow of traffic originating from Radisson Circle.
