Dwarka Expressway Tunnel to Open 3 Hours Daily for Smoother Travel

Commuters travelling to Delhi Airport from Gurugram, Sohna, and Jaipur can look forward to a significantly smoother journey, as the much-anticipated 2.5-kilometre tunnel on the Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway has been completed and is set to open for vehicular movement starting 29 May.
In its initial phase, the tunnel will be accessible daily for a limited duration鈥攆rom 12 PM to 3 PM鈥攐ffering considerable relief to travellers during the typically congested afternoon hours.
As reported by Jagran.com, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), along with traffic police officials from Delhi and Gurugram, conducted a joint inspection on Tuesday and approved the restricted-time opening. The decision was made in response to the high volume of traffic from Gurugram and Jaipur heading towards Delhi Airport around midday. Officials indicated that traffic patterns would be monitored during this trial period, and a decision on extending access throughout the day could follow in the next phase.
The tunnel, which passes beneath the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, is expected to serve as a faster alternative route to the airport, thereby easing congestion on the frequently clogged Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. With improved traffic flow anticipated from regions such as Manesar, Sohna, and Jaipur, airport-bound travellers may experience a more convenient and time-efficient commute.
To ensure safety and maintain efficient movement, certain types of vehicles will be prohibited from using the tunnel during the trial phase. These include two-wheelers, three-wheelers, water and gas tankers, tractors towing trolleys, and other slow-moving vehicles.
