Every Rajhasthan district must have road safety panels, says SC

In accordance with Supreme Court rulings, the state transportation and road safety agency has now made it mandatory for each district to form a district road safety committee. The department issued an order on this matter.

These committees will be led by district collectors and will include the police commissioner, chief medical officer, executive engineer of the public works department, NHAI program director, district education officer, secondary district transport officer, and others.

According to officials, the district formerly had a district traffic management committee that did not place a lot of emphasis on driving safely. According to the official order, the committee will evaluate the district's road safety measures, ensure that national road safety guidelines are followed, and regularly update the state road safety council on the types of accidents that are occurring in the district and the reasons for those accidents.

Every district committee will also be required to establish a district road safety plan and track the response time and handover time after an accident in order to gradually reduce the same and provide better facilities to accident victims.

The directions also state that an emergency medical plan must be developed based on previous major accidents in the district. Specific points must be established for ambulances in the district based on known accident sites, in order to encourage good samaritans. Last month, the Chief Minister directed officials to make Rajasthan a model state for road safety.
