In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the Union minister for transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, suggested to the Mohan Yadav government that they should propose the initiation of a ropeway, cable car, and sky buses over Upper Lake (Bhopal). He assured that his ministry would assist the state government in this matter. While laying the foundation stone for 15 national highway road projects spanning 498 km at Lal Parade ground, Gadkari spoke about various road projects. He mentioned that over Rs 80 billion would be allocated for these projects. He expressed his vision for the road network in Madhya Pradesh, stating that it would soon be on par with that of America. Discussing the potential benefits of the road network, Gadkari highlighted the demand for Malwa wheat in countries such as Abu Dhabi. He emphasized that a robust road network would facilitate the export of wheat. Furthermore, he provided details about a ropeway project between Ujjain railway station and Mahakal temple, mentioning that the tender process for the Rs 1.71 billion project would be completed the following month. Gadkari affirmed their commitment to all 27 projects in Madhya Pradesh, with the issuance of tenders expected shortly. He also announced the launch of green express highways worth Rs 50,000 crores in the state. Additionally, an economic corridor from Bhopal to Kanpur was underway, estimated to cost Rs 120 billion, with a six-lane road covering 440 km. This project aimed to reduce travel time between Bhopal and Kanpur from 15 to 7 hours. Gadkari provided updates on various projects, including the Bhopal-Sagar project (Rs 40 bn) scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, the Sagar-Kanpur corridor (Rs 80 bn), and the Delhi-Mumbai expressway passing through Madhya Pradesh, with the 245 km stretch set to finish by December. He also mentioned plans for a second highway between Indore and Hyderabad at a cost of Rs 180 bn, along with the construction of the Ujjain to Gharot Green expressway at Rs 27 bn. In response to Gadkari's ideas, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav praised the achievement of having road construction projects worth Rs 100 bn in the state. Commending the national performance of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Yadav highlighted the significant road development over the last decade, benefitting 17 districts in the state.
