The completion of the Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway, originally expected to be operational by March 2025, has been pushed back to September 2025. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), only 63% of the work had been completed as of January 31. The initial deadline for the highway project, set in September 2024, was March 31, 2025. However, frequent construction halts due to air pollution, delays in shifting utilities, environmental concerns, and encroachments along the route have caused setbacks. The project, which was originally slated for completion in November 2023, has now been given an extended deadline of September 2025. A senior NHAI official confirmed that 63% of the work had been completed, and efforts would be intensified to meet the new September deadline. The 46.1 km-long highway will connect Gurugram with Pataudi and Rewari, featuring 81 culverts, 23 vehicular underpasses, one railway overbridge, and two flyovers, among other structures. Additional structures were added later in the project, which was not part of the original scope and has contributed to the delay. Once completed, the highway will significantly reduce travel time between Gurugram and Rewari from 90 minutes to just 45 minutes. It will also provide faster commuting for residents of 27 villages along the route. The highway is being linked to the Dwarka Expressway near Sector 88B via a flyover currently under construction. Earlier, Yogesh Tilak, project director for the Rewari PIU, had noted that while most of the work between Rewari and Wazirpur had been completed, progress had been slowed by the need to shift high-tension wires along the stretch between Wazirpur and the Dwarka Expressway. Despite the setbacks, the NHAI is committed to completing the project by the newly revised September 2025 deadline.
