Infra work kicks off on Kartarpur corridor

In order to develop the Kartarpur corridor on the Indian side, work on various infrastructure projects is reportedly underway at a vigorous pace by the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The project is reportedly monitored at the secretary level.聽

A passenger terminal building (PTB) worth Rs 1.95 billion will be build by LPAI. The tender for building it was issued on March 9. The last day of submission of the tender documents is April 9. The government has said that the contract will be awarded very soon.

Nearly 50 acre of land has been demarcated to build the PTB, of which 15 acre has already been taken. As compensation for land acquisition for the building Rs 100 million. Reportedly, as much as 15 acre of land has been levelled as of March 28, while the earthwork, like the levelling activity, began on March 18.聽

NHAI at present is acquiring 23 hectare of land for the 4.2-km four-lane highway leading up to the passenger terminal building at the border. The total cost of the highway project is expected to be Rs 1.2 billion. The NHAI is expected to release Rs 1.4 billion.聽

The passenger terminal building is expected to cater to 5,000 pilgrims per day.聽
